The original title of Austin's book was originally titled "First Impressions." This rally sets the stage for meeting the narrator Elizabeth Bennet. She becomes our lens through the book. At first one wonders if she is too head strong or simply an enlightened Voctorian -era woman. Through the novel we re-assess her traits both under the theme of pride and prejudice. Like Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth evolved. As she evolves the reader likes her more and more.
