Pamela: Or Virtue Rewarded

what is the significance of the very repeated statement "for my own sake"?

it sometimes conveys that Pamela is working for her own sake, plotting for her own sake. pretending that she is virtuous is just a vehicle to help her make everything good for her own (benefit).

In this context, for "my own sake" denotes that Pamela is in fact working toward her own goals.
