Based upon the first few chapters of the novel, we can see that McManus is going to tackle the very real problem of cliques and stereotyping in the high school environment. Coming of age is a major theme, which is compounded by the very real challenge of coming of age in a generation where technology is used as a form of bullying and punishment. Not to mention, the distraction technology poses to the educational environment.
