To Nurse Ratched, rebellion is anything that undermines her control over the men in the institution. She does not tolerate her authority being questioned, even if it is to the detriment of the patients. She even rebukes her superiors, who are men. Nurse Ratched represents the abuse of power over people she is meant to support. Her own mental issues surrounding gender control dominate her male patients. I these men need to be in a better system with better therapists.
