This particular day in Shukhov’s life is both typical and unusual. Just from reading the first few pages, it is obviously that day wasn’t as normal as the other days. Shukhov woke up late because he was feeling ill. From that point on, there was an unsettling feeling and one would expect something to go wrong sooner or later. However, nothing goes wrong and the day continues as normal.
