Why would Crooks insulation mean something to our society today? Are people in different ways still isolated from society?

Crooks is isolated because of race and discrimination. The men he works with are prejudiced, and racial segregation is a reality in the time the novel was written. Unfortunately, discrimination and isolation are just as prevalent today. Think about the people you go to school with.... the kids who sit alone, the kids who don't have a lot of friends, the kids who are bullied.
