where does George tell Lennie to meet him if he gets in trouble? why does George feel that it's necessary to have a secret meeting place?

George tells Lennie to meet him at the pond where they camped before getting to the ranch. George knows that George usually gets himself in trouble (like in Weed). THey need a place to meet in case they get separated.
