Certainly one feels for George. Is it okay to commit a crime, to take somebody's life for a greater good? Lennie most certainly would have been lynched by Curley or at the very least placed in a cage. George kills his friend out of compassion. This leads to all kinds of themes in contemporary society. From questions of euthanasia to punishment to war, Steinbeck lets us consider why me must sometimes to a bad thing for a better outcome.
