Although their dreams are never realized, I don't think that Steinbeck is alluding to the fact that they aren't attainable. Lennie and George's dream becomes unattainable for Lennie..... George still has time to make his come true, as does Candy and Crooks. Curley's wife gave up on her dream and settled for marriage.... her own choice. If you have a dream, you have to reach out and work to make it come true.
