The isolation and loneliness seen in the book can crush these itinerant workers. The one thing that George and Lennie have that keeps them going is their dream of having their own farm. They are able to carry on because of their dream. When they share their dream with Candy, he rises above his isolation. Even Crooks feels this dream for a little while.
