Steinbeck's use of descriptive language takes us to the Salinas Valley and makes the reader a part of the story. We can see the scenery.... smell the river, picture the characters. Dialogue provided us with other character insights.... George's protectiveness, Lennie's innocence, Curley's wife lonliness and unhappiness, Slim's understanding, Curley's insecurities, and Crook's intelligence.
