Lennie and George are connected by their early lives, and their relationships with Aunt Clara. They have a kind of family tie.... and George is bound by a promise to care for Lennie just before Aunt Clara's death.

George and Slim establish a friendship based upon honesty and trust.

Candy shares George and Lennie's dream of a home, a future, and a place where he will not be alone.
