Of Mice and Men

For George and Crooks, part of their dream involves elements from their past/childhood. Why is this an important part of their dreams now, as adults? In other words, what is lacking from their adult lives that they once had as children?

The main thing they lack in their adult lives is a home.... somewhere they belong, somewhere they can settle, and somewhere where they can work for themselves. They lack a sense of constancy, a sense of belonging.... this is what the farm can give them.
