Do people at that time only have horseshoe tossing as a form of entertainment? Do they have any other forms of sport or activity?

All the guys were tossing horseshoes while Lennie was playing with his puppy and then killing Curly's wife.

Well, it was a ranch they were at so horseshoe tossing was an obvious past time. It was the 1930's so nobody was firing up their Blue Ray player. There were your various recreation activities for the time but at the ranch, they were rather limited.
