Oedipus Rex or Oedipus the King

Explain Teiresuas' words "...but oh, when wisdom brings no profit / to be wise is to suffer." How will he and Oedipus, both wise man, suffer?

Oedipus suffers because he has, in fact, fulfilled the prophecy to kill his father and marry his mother; Teiresias suffers because he has to tell the truth and finds himself discarded by Oedipus who believes Teiresias to be bribed.

Explain Teiresuas' words "...but oh, when wisdom brings no profit / to be wise is to suffer." How will he and Oedipus, both wise man, suffer?
