Number the Stars

Hi! I am reading Number The Stars, and I got some questions.

Why does Mrs. Rosen tell Annemarie that it is important to be one of many? How does this idea become important in the novel?

Mrs. Rosen is referring to the fact that at the time, it was important to blend in.... not to stand out. This becomes important over the course of the novel, as the Jews are being taken by the Nazis. For the Jews, standing out was a death sentence. Blending in could mean the difference between life and death.
