The bell- Wiesel hated how the bells dictated when and what time he could see his father or for that matter, eat, sleep, and work. Both Wiesel and his father were at Buna but they were in separate units. Wiesel dreamed of a world without bells telling that his time was up.

Juliek plays the violin in a room full of dying men. In the morning, Elie finds Juliek dead and the violin smashed.
