My Brilliant Friend

After reading 150 pages, I find the book dull and a chore to pick up. Please explain the fascination it holds for many critics.

Too many characters and too many boring details in the first 150 pages. If it were not for the fact that I am leading a discussion on My Brilliant Friend in 2 weeks, I would stop forcing myself to keep reading it.
