Portia did not all together want a husband. She also was weary of having her husband chosen by her father's casket game.

Portia was weary of the lottery of caskets . She was against the lottery as it deprived her of the right to choose her own husband .She was anxious over who her husband might be . Thus , she was in a gloomy and compliant mood .

Portia wanted to hide her feelings about her possible husband. These times would've been very challenging and stressful, for instance she was racist towards 'men of his complexion' but would be bound by her father's will to marry the prince of Morrocco if he chose correctly. Her mood was a result combination of stress, anxiety, and considerations about her future.
