I'm going to go with Antonio. Antonio is a wealthy Venetian merchant who occasionally lends money. Like a "good" Christian, he never charges interest. He eventually becomes indebted to Shylock who, being Jewish, does charge interest. Since Antonio's main source of income is from his merchant ships, he is the "merchant" of the play's title.
