Why is the boys attempt to get Piggys' specs and get the other boys to maintain a fire boud to fail?

The boys are rapidly losing a sense of planning and order.  The glasses are breakable and Piggy cannot see at all without them.  He will not give them up without a fight, and the fight will ultimately result in their being broken rather than being used in a planned, orderly way.
