why did some of the boys in ralph's camp slowly defect to the hunting group

Over time, many of the boys that once supported Ralph swirch their allegiance to Jack. The boys are worried about eating more than shelter or fires..... and Jack is looking to fulfill those needs. They want immediate gratification without rules.
