Lord of the Flies

What does this event say about the adult world outside the island compared to the island world of boys? Explain.

In chapter 5, the boys were waiting for a sign from the adult world. In chapter 6, a ''sign'' comes in the form of a dead parachutist who has landed on the mountain, a casualty of the same war that brought the boys to the island in the first place.

The event symbolizes the fact the like the island, the outside "adult" world they're waiting for a sign from is absorbed in a savage conflict very similar to their own.
