In Lord of the Flies, what two things symbolize human aspiration?

I think the signal fire represents all kinds of human aspirations from the creative to the destructive. The fire was a good idea, it could have got them saved but they destroy the top of the mountain.

The conch serves the aspiration for order, the boys just aren't very good at that!
