How and why did Jack become idolized by a large part of the boys near the end of the novel ?

Its supposed to be "discussed "

Jack was idolized because he provided food...... a feast of meat. Most of the boys were tired of hearing about signal fires and building shelters..... they wanted their immediate needs met...... food was one of those needs.
