Everyone is affected by visions and bad dreams. They represent the subconscious fears and intense emotions of the boys. The littluns are plagued by nightmares having been severed from their parents and a world that cares about them. Ralph dreams of the comfort of his bedroom and Simon, Golding's Christ figure, has visions alluding to the Devil and destruction.
