Chapter 9: Piggy and Ralph's fringe participation in the dance ritual

Why is Piggy and Ralph’s fringe participation important? (Participation in the dance ritual that later kills Simon)

There is a storm and Jack uses the storm as a diversion from fear. The boys get caught up in their own hysteria. The power of this frenzy is so strong that even Ralph and Piggy get caught up in it: they cannot resist. It is speculative if they had any part in Simon's death.
