Little Women

I'll try and be what he loves to call me, `a little woman' and not be rough and wild, but do my duty here instead of wanting to be somewhere else, what does she mean by this

Jo says that she has to work hard to be a "little woman" while the war is going on instead of being a tom boy. We are not sure to what extent she is joking. Going to war, the Civil War I think, would be more demanding than Jo trying to change.
