Pi addresses his questions about life and the sense of the tragedy to Richard Parker. Why is this?

Richard Parker is the only thing Pi has to talk to..... his only company. Without Richard Parker he would be completely cutoff. Thus, even without an answer..... Richard Parker is someone to talk to.
