Langston Hughes: Poems

the negro artist and the racial mountain by la Langston Hughes

Why is it important for these young writers/students to bring their culture, history, and own voice to the work they produce? Why does it become "dangerous" if outside forces shape students in ways that eliminate their own experiences? FURTHERMORE, how can this relate to Robin Romm's experience when her formal paper was rejected and her personal experience in Katmandu, goat heads and dumpling and all, accepted? Do you think, in a way, Robin touched on what Hughes was writing about? FINALLY, how did Hughes' essay resonate with you and your relationship with writing or personal expression? Do you agree with him?
