I assume you are referring to Mrs. Mallard's condition. Her condition seems to worry her family, as well as her husband's friend, Richards. They are afraid that the shock of Brently's death will make Mrs. Mallard ill, thus, they are solicitous of her needs..... and in their desire to protect her...... they hover.
