Our narrator and his Uncle meet with their guide (to the center of the earth)Hans Bjelke. Plans were made for the journey and necessary items were purchased and packed (the list is lengthy and detailed within the chapter). Once all preparations were made, M. Fridrikssen bid the two men a safe journey. He ended his farewell with a quote from Virgil.
"Et quacumque viam dedent fortuna sequamur."
"Therever fortune clears a way,
Thither our ready footsteps stray."
