WHAT excuse did Aleuts give for wanting karana's father to share in unlape's find? why did Chief chowing refuse?

The Aleuts gave the excuse that they wanted to share in the find because they were tired of subsisting on dried fish. The Chief refused because he hadn't been the one to find it, Ulape had found it.
