No, his journey was not worth it in the end. He died realizing what most of us know already; people are social animals, we need each other. Chris had romantic ideas of rugged individualism. He thought he could separate himself from society like his idols Thoreau or Emerson. Really, Chris only found spirit crushing loneliness and starvation.
