What is Lio's relationship with the Mirabal family?

Minerva falls in love with Lio and begins to spend a lot of time with him. Unfortunately, her parents learn that he is linked to the revolution, and they disaprove of his presence at their home. When he is forced into exile, Lio sends a message asking Minerva to accompany him, which Dede destroys. All of his later communication is destroyed by Mr. Mirabel.
