Patria is the oldest of the Mirabal sisters, she is the most religious. At first she planned to enter a convent but then chose to marry Pedrito Gonzales at the age of 16. Dede is the oldest and only surviving Mirabal sister. Dede, for much of the book, seems least committed to the revolution. Minerva is the most animated of the sisters. She is full of passion and was the most committed to the revolution. Miria Teresa is likes things and money. She joins the revolution largely to prove herself to ti Leandro. All the sisters had a sense of duty despite their differences. They also had a sense of loyalty to each other.
