In Flanders Fields and Other Poems

The poet talks about life, death and duties of soldiers. But victory in war often comes at the cost of precious life. Is it fair that the soldiers give up their lives for their country?

I need an explanation for the above question.

It is very fair to say that soldiers sacrifice their lives for their country. WW1, the tome of the poem, was especially deadly for allied forces like Canada and Britain. Germany also suffered heavy losses.
