I, Claudius

How was life for the average Roman citizen affected by the political infighting of the empire's rulers?

What were the benefits of living in the Roman empire at this time?

For the Roman people themselves, the Imperial Reign was a time of peace (while Augustus served as monarch), and a time of horror during Caligula's rule. For the social classes, monarchy was a good thing....... it kept them from civil war. Claudius' rule was prosperous and stable. Thus, it may not have been seen as the most desireable form of government, but it was peaceful....... a nice benefit for the Romans living there!
