Why does Marlow tear off the postscriptum, which reads “Exterminate all the brutes!”, before giving the report to the man from the Company?

Marlow feels the postscript was written as a result of Kurtz's deteriorating mental state. He doesn't want the man's insanity exposed to the civilized world.
