Why does Marlow go to work for the Belgian Trading Company even though he is so against the idea of imperialism?

Marlow was an explorer at heart. As a child Marlow loved looking at maps, particularly Africa and the "snake-like" Congo River. Marlow, a steam boat captain, is afforded this chance to travel into the Congo if he joins this Belgian Trading Company.
