What do we make of the Company Accountant's remarks about his laundry woman?

The accountants remarks sound like he trained a monkey to do his laundry. He condescendingly states he had actually “trained” one of the women,

“I’d been teaching one of the native women about the station. It was difficult. She had a distaste for the work.”

Certainly we can see how women, especially native ones, were viewed by these colonists.
