Hamlet

Read the conversation between Hamlet and two Clowns (the gravediggers) in Act 5, Scene 1. What is the gravediggers attitude towards death?

The gravedigger is very matter of fact about death and simply sees the digging of the graves as his job in life. He makes jokes about his job and thinks fondly (or sometimes not so fondly) about the people in the graves whom he has buried. He has been doing the job so long that he can relate the history of the graveyard and the histories of the people there.
