Food production meant what to hunting and gathering societies?

If this question doesn't make sense let me know.

Certainly the actual production of food meant hunting and gathering was no longer necessary. If food could be produced, the framework of a hunter/gatherer society would be destroyed. Having food available without looking for it and risking one's life getting it certainly changed how a society functioned.
