Kira lives with her mother until she dies of sickness. Kira's house and possessions are all burned leaving Kira homeless and alone. The community has not compassion for Kira and considers her tainted by sickness. Although difficult, Kira uses her isolation to become strong and resilient. She sees the truth about people and learns how to cope with being alone.
