This is extremely difficult to say, but I would argue that the creature has the best line of critique. If there is any responsibility at all for the pain of this ordeal, it ought to be directed towards Victor, the creator. Especially if the creature intends to stay away from people upon having his request granted, it seems quite reasonable to say that he makes a good case for himself.
