When he attends University, Victor comes to embrace his courses in Natural Philosophy. Professor Krempe influences Victor greatly, but it is Professor Waldman's lecture that changes the course of his studies. Waldman believes that scientists can perform miracles, acquire unlimited power, and "mock the invisible world with its own shadows." Victor is enthralled by his lesson and immediately becomes his disciple.
