Not too much is known about the exact reasons for this duel. Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton hated each other personally and politically. Both were all hot and bothered over the revolution. The contest had Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied for the presidency in the electoral college, Hamilton helped defeat Burr. Hamilton found Burr unprincipled. The defeat of Burr to Jefferson changed history in America.
