Woody takes on the role of patriarch by leading his family an taking initiative. He has a sense of humor, he procures items the family needs to fix up their dwelling, he's optimistc, and he is cares for the emotional needs of his younger siblings. His affection, in addition to the way he accepts the responsibility no one else seems to be able to handle makes him the man of the family.
