quality information-Books hold or rather held information that was documented and researched rather than manufactured by a party or government.

the leisure to digest it-Leisure was primarily the pursuit of mindless activities like watching the picture walls, not reading.

freedom to act on what they've learned- There was no freedom to pursue intellectual ideas learned from books. The party restricted individual or abstract thought.
