what does the narrator reveal about himself before the arrival of the blind man? how does the monologue prepare for the rest of the story?

There is very little about the narrator himself. We learn a little about him in relation to the context of his wife's relationship with Robert. All we really know is that he is his wife's second husband and that he is nervous around blind people.
